Under the Influence, Inspirations from land & sea” April 23 through June 19, 2016.

The opening reception will be Saturday April 23 from 6:30 pm until 9 pm.
It will feature over 100 new pieces by owner Julie A. Beutler.  Her inspiration for this show will be a reflection of her experiences over the last few years of travel.  A promise she made to herself while studying in Italy during college was to return to Italy again with her family and that led her back twenty years later and continued a lifelong wanderlust to see new places and that has led Julie to this show.  That family trip to Italy and France started the desire to make a body of work based on traveling and what it means to her.  From there she spent time in California, New York City, Detroit, Chicago, Canada, St. Augustine, Miami and most recently several islands in the Caribbean, hence the title of “land and sea”.  The architecture of the cities, the turquoise waters of the sea and the adventures of getting to those destinations were the perfect combinations of inspiration.  To Ms. Beutler, traveling turns one into a storyteller, a sharer of adventures and discoveries and she is speaking of her experiences through her pottery and artwork. The time spent absorbing the culture, the food, drinks and touring historic places, water and land has left a strong influence on her current work. This winter at the islands of the Caribbean, Beutler was inspired strongly by snorkeling and it had her anxious to do a line of pottery focusing on “under the sea” including fish, sea horses, star fish, and jelly fish as well as coral formations.  Beutler will also have pastel drawings of fish and a large collection of photography focusing on “inspirations from the land” with architecture and landscapes from these great cities as well as a “cocktails, drinks and food” line of work.  To compliment the cocktail photography Beutler also made a large line of barware pottery. There will also be new pieces in her standard line of functional ceramics.

Joining Julie in her theme of travels, food, drinks and inspirations will be new photography by Daniel Klett (Sylvania, OH).  His unique photographs feature geometric details of taking an incredible photo and cutting them up into angular compositions and putting it back together again on matte board to make a whole new twist on his photography.  His subjects include European landscapes, local floral and landscapes as well as Shaker style staircases. The gallery will also be debuting drawings and prints by Jeanne Beutler (Ottawa, OH).  A distant cousin of gallery owner Julie, they met for the first time when Jeanne came to visit Grand Rapids.  Her work focuses on realistic and intricate drawings of wine bottles/ glasses as well as seascapes and landscapes.  She has been showcasing her work mostly in her hometown so Angelwood is pleased to be her first gallery in this area.  Candace Hardy will be returning to the gallery with her colored pencil drawings and has focused on fish as her subject to go along with the theme of the show.

Other new artists we are pleased to be representing are Susan Diehr with her felted animals and wearable’s.  Peg Briggs and Ann Hymel will once again featured their own lines of fused glass, with both “under the sea” themed pieces and other favorites of theirs.
A large selection of pottery by Christy Cordell (Oregon, OH), Brandon Knott (Continental, OH) and Maggie Trzcinski (Whitehouse, OH) with each of them featuring new pots from their very popular lines of work.  Stained glass artist Susan Ullman (Bowling Green, OH) will display her desk frames, mirrors, candle holders and desk pieces.  New jewelry by Nadine Musser (Weston, OH), Sharon Frankel (Toledo, OH), Beth Ziss (Findlay, OH), Brilliant Ideas (Sylvania, OH) and Jenny Schu (Lansing, MI) will feature glass, bead work and silver as well as up cycled works.  Glass artist Larry Mack, Lars Glass, (Holland, OH) will feature hand blown glass pieces as well as mixed media lamps.
